Fall

I recently went on a nice little day hike up near New Paltz in New York, and i came back with a bunch of   ideas for little paintings that deal with repetition. I have also been super busy lately with the day job, so art has taken a back seat up until now so it is nice to have something new to show. Leaves on a trail. and a giant rock.

I also finally got a friend to take a few pictures of me riding my motorcycle (my side hobby). For me riding the motorcycle is a lone wolf activity since none of my friends ride, and the groups in the area that do ride are too crazy for my tastes. Its nice being alone having time to think, enjoy the scenery, the smells, the freezing temperatures, crazy drivers, etc. Tons of stories have occurred because of my little yellow moto, but they are all in my head since no one would believe them as i am the only witness. Anyway heres a few pictures of me riding and enjoying one of the few things that makes me feel completely free in this crazy world we live in.

Some new NYC Postcards!

I finally got a chance to do some more NYC postcard location drawings today. And what a nice day it was for this. It must have been at least 60 degrees outside, and sunny. Unfortunately none of the postcards got colored in because i ran out of day light, so i will have to do it from reference later

Fan Art: Can you guess what movie?

I have been working on this for the last week. Played around a whole lot with photoshop, the drawing, and just seeing what looked good. overall im super happy with this even though it is one of the more simpler drawings i have made. Can you guess what movie it is?

rant: just a warning if you ever visit NYC ...

Taxis are dangerous. Especially if you are in a good mood and dont see one rushing around the corner towards you. Luckily thanks to driver noticing last second, i wasn't hit, save for my hands slamming down on the hood of that fucking taxi, and the loudest fuck you i have probably said in a while.

gah

PS: Yes i had the right of way.

The Sketchbook Project... Cover

I'm taking part in The Sketchbook Project, which is hosted by the Art House Co-op in Brooklyn. Basically its a sketchbook you fill out around a theme you pick. I Picked Uncharted Waters, and this is the cover. The compass is decorated with silver and gold ink, which unfortunately you can not see with the scan. I'll upload a better quality image once i find my SD card reader.

Happy Halloween

W.I.P. EuroTrip Map

Just a little something i been working on. An overall map of my trip. I'm going to follow this with maps of the cities i visited and what i saw. I guess you could say they are like journal maps.

Sneak peak, and a look into my little studio space

For the past week i have been away from my apartment due to some... interesting situations.. but im back now, and it feels great! I have been working on a few little things but for now you just get a little tease, and a look into where i spend my free time painting. Enjoy!

ps: yes, it is snowing in NYC in october. My window gives me a nice view of the little accumulation occurring on the trees and cars.

I usually work small, so this little table is more than enough for my needs. All my supplies are to my right, and paper is below the desk. Usually the wall is covered with artwork from my friends, but i recently painted that wall and took everything down. The sheep painting is from Rachel Pontious, and its the only one hanging right now because it was held by nails i was too lazy to remove when i painted the wall. take a look out the window, thats snow on a still leafy green tree...

Just a sneak peak. Can you tell what it is?

Washington Square Park Arch

Another new postcard to add to the collection! This time i took a bike ride down to the arch in Washington Square park, and drew that as the sun set. There was some sort of rally going on in the background with NYU students chanting. That was weird. Anyway enjoy!

The much awaited postcards!

Before i left for europe, i made a Facebook post asking people if they wanted one-off location drawing postcards from different european cities. I had a few responses, so off i went with an assignment on hand while away. unfortunately when you're busy exploring a country you have never stepped foot in before, experiencing the new languages never heard, read or seen, enjoying architecture that just blew my mind, and have my first true legit vacation in years, i got carried away and didn't find any post offices. But thats for the better, because i now have the chance to provide high quality scans for you guy, and the people who asked for postcards will still receive them! (just with out a cool international stamp attached to it).

I tried to do a post card from each city, which were as follows: Amsterdam (Really crappy for location drawing, especially with watercolors. It was raining the whole time), Milan (awesome 75 degree weather and sunshine, perfect for sit and draw), Barcelona (Also awesome sunshine and 80 degrees. Hell i ever got sunburnt while there! The only fear was getting my stuff stolen while not paying attention. Luckily i passed as a local and the pickpockets tend not to mess with locals), Paris (This city blessed me with beyond perfect romantic fall weather. 55 degrees, sunny, trees were turning, and not a cloud in the sky. Just perfect for admiring such a city.), and finally London, which also gave me perfect fall weather, just not as romantic as Paris. if i could compare it to anything, London is a classier much more expensive version of NYC except with scooters and motorcycles everywhere, which was not a bad thing in my book)

 Enjoy!

A Canal on the outskirts of the red light district (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II Milano, Italy)

Duomo di Milano - Interior (Milano, Italy)
I tried really hard to capture the awe i experienced when i entered this cathedral.  I think i should mention its impossible on a little postcard

Porta Sempione  (Milano, Italy)

Parliament - Big Ben (London, UK)

Biblioteca Ambrosiana (Milano, Italy)

The National Gallery (London, UK)

Basilique du Sacré-Cœur  (Paris, France)

(if you're wondering why i have so many from Milan, The answer is simple. Milan isn't really a tourist town, so i exhausted my sightseeing quickly, which gave me a good amount of time to roam around and draw things.)

Euro Trip 2011 Sketches

I Recently got back from a short trip i took to explore western Europe for a bit. I did my best to draw a bit, but with all the sightseeing, and meeting people that took place, the time to sit and draw was rare. I just wanted to sit and absorb the sights. I wish the trip lasted longer but my funds ran dangerously low.

Anyhow these are some of the sketchbook drawings i did while away.

Top Drawing was made while on the flight to London from JFK. Fell asleep before i could finish drawing the airplane cabin. The Hippos was drawn from life, at the Museum of Natural History in London.
Drawn while at the hostel in Milan, Italy. Ostello Bello Hostel. One of the best hostels i have stayed at.
Also drawn while at the hostel in Milan, Italy
Drawn while waiting for my flight from Milan to Barcelona.
The drawing on the left was done while on the flight from Milan to Barcelona. The drawing in the Right was my view from my hostel in Barcelona on to the Placa Reial right next to the La Rambla

A Panoramic Drawing i did while on the Park Güell, Didnt get a chance to paint it in
Also drawn while on the Park Guell. I was going to attempt to draw the city in the distance as well but got distracted by the sunset
One of the few drawings i did while in France. Not a specific building.

The top drawing was drawn on the Ourcq Canal in Paris, France. The Bottom Drawing is just a table at my friends flat after a night out.
This is a simple aerial view of a section of Barcelona that i explored.

This looked a lot better then i originally drew it. This is the National Gallery in London, UK.

I will be uploading some postcard location drawings i did in the various cities as well later! stay tuned

Some new sketchbook/Location Drawings

During my day job, i get the occasional duty of looking for parking while the rest of my crew starts work. Usually this can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour, so i take this time and draw. Which just happens to be a lot of cars.

Maps are fun

This is a sketch for a bigger map piece I'm working on. Its going to be all traditional media (ink + watercolor), but I will scan in the line work just in case I screw up.
Featured in this mini map is the Williamsburg bridge, a mermaid, and fixie bikes everywhere.
